Arkansas pitcher finalist for Premier Player honor

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas pitcher DJ Baxendale has been selected to be a finalist for the 2012 Premier Player of College Baseball Award.

Officials announced Tuesday that a new poll has been posted to www.premierplayers.com, where fans may vote for the 2012 recipient of the award. The Premier Player Award recipient will be announced in July.

Baxendale has a 7-4 record, a team-leading 85 strikeouts and a 2.83 earned run average over 92 and 1-3 innings. Baxendale has a 17-8 record with 10 saves in his three years with the Razorbacks.

Arkansas will take on Baylor in an NCAA super regional game in Texas on Friday.

Baxendale is scheduled to make the start in the first super regional game.
