Arkansas shortstop on watch list for award

Arkansas infielder Tim Carver has been placed on the watch list for the 2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas infielder Tim Carver has been placed on the watch list for the 2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award.

Officials announced Thursday that Carver is one of 50 players up for the award, which recognizes the nation's top college shortstop. The winner will be announced on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.

Carver ranks second on the team with a .322 batting average, and has two homers and 22 RBIs this season. He also is second on the team in hits with 56, and third in doubles with 11.

For his career, Carver has played in 197 games, with 182 starts, and has a .267 batting average with seven homers and 81 RBIs.
