FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas will take on Texas Tech in the opening game of the Houston College Classic, one of the top early season events in college baseball.

Officials announced Friday the Razorbacks will play the Red Raiders at noon on March 2 at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. Arkansas will face Houston at noon on March 3 and go up against Texas at 11 a.m. March 4.

Fellow Southeastern Conference teams Rice and Tennessee also are participating in the tournament, but Arkansas won't play them.

It will be the first appearance at the Houston College Classic for the Razorbacks. Three of the six teams in the event advanced to the 2011 NCAA tournament, and the Longhorns reached the College World Series.

Arkansas' season begins Feb. 17 against Villanova.
