FAYETTEVILLE, AR. – Monday afternoon, Arkansas sophomore pitcher Barrett Astin was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time during his career, according to a release.
Last season, Astin was named the league’s freshman of the week after earning a save and a win in a doubleheader against Ole Miss to close the regular season. A sophomore right-handed pitcher from Forrest City, Ark., Astin started the series finale against Villanova on Sunday and earned the win, throwing five hitless innings with seven strikeouts. Astin, who set a new career high with five innings pitched, retired the first seven batters he faced and closed the outing by sitting down seven of the last eight batters.
Astin currently has a 6-2 record with three saves and a 2.51 ERA in 28 appearances, including four starts. In 64.2 career innings pitched, Astin has struck out 64 batters and held the opposition to a .241 batting average.
Astin and the rest of the No. 4 Arkansas baseball team return to the field on Tuesday and Wednesday as they host Northwestern State in a two-game series at Baum Stadium. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. Single-game tickets for both contests are $10 for reserved seats and $8 for general admission tickets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 1-800-982-HOGS (4647), by visiting the online ticket center at ArkansasRazorbacks.com or on gameday at Baum Stadium.
