Bears Dodge the Weather for Media Day

The University of Central Arkansas Bears dodged storm clouds to meet the press during Media Day activities on Tuesday afternoon at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.
CONWAY, AR - The University of Central Arkansas Bears dodged storm clouds to meet the press during Media Day activities on Tuesday afternoon at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.

The kickoff to Media Day, the annual team photo featuring players, coaches and staff, was pushed back about 45 minutes when a brief rain shower blew into Conway. The Bears, sporting their new adidas uniforms for the first time, spent the delay beneath the east stands at Estes Stadium entertaining each other before resuming their activities on the field.

UCA was ranked seventh in The Sports Network FSC Top 25 poll released earlier Tuesday, and 10th in the College Sporting News poll that came out Monday. The Bears have been in the Top 10 of every FCS poll released this summer.

“We have seven teams on our 2013 schedule that are either ranked in the Top 25 or are receiving votes in that latest poll,’ said UCA head coach Clint Conque. “And that doesn’t include playing FBS Colorado on the road in Week 2. We knew we had a quality schedule but this just reinforces that. It’s going to be a challenge.’

UCA, 9-3 last season and co-champions of the Southland Conference, opens the season at home against SLC newcomer Incarnate Word on Thursday, Aug. 29. The Bears reached the second round of the FCS Playoffs last season for the second straight year.
