FAYETTEVILLE, AR. – Arkansas senior infielder Tim Carver and sophomore pitcher Ryne Stanek each received a weekly award on Monday after their performances in the Razorbacks’ four games last week, which included a series win at Mississippi State.
Carver was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week, while Stanek was named Pitcher of the Week by SEBaseball.com.
In four games last week, Carver hit .421 (8-for-19) with four RBI and two runs scored. The senior infielder from Fayetteville had at least one hit in each game during the week, including three multiple-hit performances. Carver had six hits in Arkansas’ series win at Mississippi State over the weekend. In the middle game of the series against the Bulldogs, Carver contributed two hits, two RBI and two stolen bases and in the series finale, Carver had a team-high three hits. For the season, Carver is hitting .348 with 15 RBI and a team-leading 12 stolen bases. Carver has hit safely in 20 of Arkansas’ 25 games this season and has reached base in all but three games this year.
Stanek was outstanding on the mound in Arkansas’ win on Saturday against Mississippi State, earning his sixth victory of the season. Stanek worked into the seventh inning against the Bulldogs, striking out six and only allowing three hits in 6.1 scoreless innings. The Overland Park, Kan., native gave up just three singles and Mississippi State did not get a runner past second base when Stanek was on the mound. Stanek is a perfect 6-0 on the season with a 1.25 ERA. He leads the SEC in wins and ranks second in the conference in ERA. Stanek has won eight consecutive starts dating back to the 2011 season.
The Arkansas baseball team is back in action this weekend when it travels to Baton Rouge, La., to face No. 15 LSU. Game times for the weekend series are set for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
