CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — The Southland Conference has named University of Central Arkansas centerfielder Jonathan Davis as hitter of the week.

Officials announced Monday that Davis was selected after leading the Bears to a three-game sweep of Nicholls State last weekend. He had a .769 batting average (10 of 13) with 7 runs scored, 3 RBIs and 4 stolen bases against Nicholls. Over the five-game span last week, Davis hit .667.

He is the reigning Southland Conference freshman of the year and is hitting .349 for the season, which ranks him ninth in the conference.

The Bears are 16-17 overall and 10-8 in league play after this past weekend.

Central Arkansas travels to San Marcos, Texas, this weekend to take on the Texas State Bobcats.
