Coach Freeze not commenting about job offers

JONESBORO, AR – The Arkansas State football coach will not be talking about reports that he has been offered another head coaching job. Hugh Freeze’s name has been brought up in connection with the recent coaching vacancies at Ole Miss and Memphis.

In Freeze’s first year as head coach, ASU is 9-2 overall and is 7-0 in Sun Belt Conference play. In the previous five years, the Red Wolves have failed win more than half of their games. The team has already accepted a bid to play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl to be played on January 8th.

In a release, Athletic Director Dean Lee said, “Our football team has one week left during the regular season and is focusing on the Troy game, so out of respect for our players and coaches we feel that it is inappropriate to comment at this time on any speculation or rumors surrounding Coach Freeze and various coaching vacancies that are out there.

“Coach Freeze and I will continue to have open communication not only about the interest other institutions may express in him, but about his future as Arkansas State’s head football coach,” Lee said. “We have put together a package for Coach Freeze that we feel rewards success, and we will continue to have dialogue with Coach Freeze regarding his continuation as our head football coach.”

A report compiled by The USA Today showed that Freeze is the lowest paid coach out of 110 FBS schools.
