JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State football coach Gus Malzahn has picked a former University of Oklahoma defensive assistant to be an assistant coach for the Red Wolves.

Malzahn said Saturday that Brandon Hall also will be appointed to oversee a specific position at a later date.

Hall recently completed his second stint as the defensive assistant for quality control at Oklahoma. He also served as the co-defensive coordinator at Central Oklahoma and the linebackers coach at Northern Iowa.

Since graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 2000 with his bachelor's degree, Hall has been a part of seven bowl teams, four conference championship squads and one national championship.

He also served as linebackers coach at Northern Iowa, helping lead the Panthers to a 7-4 record in 2006.
