FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior transfer Alandise Harris will join the University of Arkansas men’s basketball team for the 2012-13 season, Razorback Head Coach Mike Anderson announced on Tuesday. Harris, a Little Rock, Ark., native spent the past two seasons at Houston before electing to transfer.

In his two seasons with the Cougars, Harris averaged 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds. The 6-6, 230 pounder who attended Central High School, made great strides between his freshman and sophomore seasons, improving his points per game by nearly four and his rebounds by one. He also improved defensively, blocking 40 shots and picking up 21 steals as a sophomore. Harris was the No. 2 scorer and rebounder on the Houston roster in 2012, starting 29 of 30 games and averaging 29.8 minutes per contest.

“I am certainly excited to have Alandise join our program,” Anderson said. “He has shown the ability to be an excellent player at this level. I like his versatility and maturity. More importantly, he wants to be a Razorback.”

Harris scored in double figures 25 times as a sophomore with a career high 25 points against Texas-El Paso in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament. He eclipsed the 20-point plateau four times and recorded two double-doubles including the Texas-El Paso game where his 25 points were combined with 12 rebounds.

Harris is not eligible to play during the 2012-13 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Razorback forward Devonta Abron was granted his release on Tuesday. Abron, a native of Seagoville, Texas, stated that he wished to be closer to home as his reason to transfer. He started 22 games for the Razorbacks last season averaging 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in a little more than 16 minutes per game.
