Henderson State Names Interim Director of Athletics

Henderson State University President Glen Jones has appointed Bobby Jones to serve as interim director of athletics following the departure of Kale Gober.
ARKADELPHIA, AR - Henderson State University President Glen Jones has appointed Bobby Jones to serve as interim director of athletics following the departure of Kale Gober, who accepted a job this month with the University of Arkansas. Jones will continue to serve as Henderson’s vice president for finance and administration.

“I am excited and look forward to having a great year in athletics at Henderson State,” Jones said. “With the great coaches and staff in our athletic department, that will not be hard to accomplish. I am honored to be able to work in this capacity until such time as a new director of athletics is selected.”

Jones, a native of Malvern, has also served as interim president at Henderson from April 22, 2011, to June 30, 2012.

After returning from Vietnam in 1973, Jones located in Arkadelphia and worked for a local CPA firm and two local financial institutions.

He became controller for Henderson in 1989 and was appointed vice president for finance and administration in 1999. He holds a B.S.B.A degree in accounting and an M.B.A. both from Henderson.

Jones, a Certified Public Accountant, was a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Henderson ROTC department, and a four-year letterman on the Reddies football team. He retired from the United State Army Reserves in 1997 having attained the rank of colonel.

Jones served on the boards of Henderson State University Alumni Association, Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation, Southern Bancorp, and the Clark County Industrial Council. He is also past treasurer of the Arkadelphia Homebuilders Association.

Jones is currently a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Jones and his wife, Judith Echols Jones, have two sons and eight grandchildren. Kevin Jones and his wife Cynthia live in Maumelle. They are the grandparents of Cooper, Emery and Julianna. 

Scott and his wife Bridgette live in Malvern and are the parents of Whit, Jett and Cy Jones, and Maddox and Braxton Allen.

Bobby and Judy are members of First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia where he an active deacon.
