I think a UA-ASU matchup will happen someday--but NOT as long as the egotistical Gus Malzahn is coaching ASU. "Email-gate" was nothing more than Malzahn & Mitch Mustain stabbing Houston Nutt in the back to feed their own egos. Malzahn shouldn't even be coaching Jonesboro High, much less the Red Wolves.

This question came up with Jeff Long some time back, he has agreed with Browles and Barnhill that this would create an issue with recruiting, so as bad as we would like to see it, ain't happening.

Covington, a instate rivalry would be great, but it will never happen. There is no financial gain for either school. Plus, the U of A will never allow the two teams to play one another because it could and would jeopardize the competition for recruiting. The U of A wants all top talent to consider them over anyone and the U of A isnt going to do anything to possibly allow the tuition and money to go anywheres else. Its all politics and money unfortunately.

As the brains behind the once famous wildcat formation, the best thing Gus did was to get away from Houston "DO NOTHING" Nutt

wow we are finally going to have a decent in state rivalry! i agree with dilgaf(sports can really bridge cultural gaps) if this is a stepping stone then it sucks but if he wants to get that program on pace to compete with the hogs and give us the alabama auburn type rivalry this state will be very appreciative

This was definitely a statement hire by ASU. Big question is this. Will Gus be a one year coach and use ASU as a stepping stone to get a head coaching job elsewhere? Either way, ASU will be a threat next year.
