Marietta Earns National Recognition

CONWAY, AR - University of Central Arkansas catcher Michael Marietta rode a monster game against Grambling State to Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honors on Monday.

He was also named one of the five Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball.

Marietta, a senior from Oak View, Calif., earned his second SLC award of the season after   hitting .471 for the week, with a 1.176 slugging percentage and a .524 on-base percentage.

In UCA’s 30-0 win over Grambling, Marietta had a record-setting day, going 7 for 7 with three home runs _ including a grand slam _ and three doubles, along with a walk, a stolen base and a runner thrown out.

His three home runs, three doubles and six runs scored all tied for the most in school history, while his 11 RBI broke the old record of nine and his 20 total bases shattered the old mark of 12. The RBI and total bases were also new SLC records, while the six runs scored and seven hits tied the SLC marks.

Marietta also came through in Sunday’s series finale against Nicholls State, which won the series for the Bears. He drew a walk in the bottom of the ninth inning and eventually scored the tying run before UCA won it 7-6 with two outs on Doug Votolato’s RBI single up the middle.

Marietta is hitting .326 on the season and leads the Southland in RBI with 37, is third in doubles with 12, fourth in slugging percentage at .527, tied for fourth in total bases with 68, sixth in run scored with 31 and seventh in on-base percentage at .439.
