Oaklawn Adds More Gaming Terminals

Oaklawn will add more than 50 new gaming terminals to the floor by the end of July.
HOT SPRINGS, AR – Oaklawn will add more than 50 new gaming terminals to the floor by the end of July. These games will include some of the most popular games already at Oaklawn as well as some of the newest games available on the market.

“On many nights, we are near capacity; especially Fridays and Saturdays. On those occasions we are frustrating players looking for their favorite game,” said Bobby Geiger, Director of Wagering and Gaming. “If I drove over from Little Rock or Conway just to find the room fully occupied I’d be disappointed, maybe even mad. The additional terminals will ease the congestion. They’ll also generate important purse dollars for the 2014 racing season.”

The addition of the new games will necessitate the closure of the Poker section. Oaklawn is in the initial planning stages for an expansion that would begin in May 2014; a possible return of poker will be evaluated. The current schedule of poker tournaments will continue through July 14. During the final week of Poker, players will be rewarded with $500 “High Hands” and will have until Dec. 31 to close out their account balances.

“Poker is in decline, both regionally and nationally,” said Geiger. “The square footage poker currently occupies needs to be utilized in a way that provides maximum benefit to our customers and various stakeholders. The change will yield more state, city and county taxes, more purses dollars and more scholarship funds. All members of the current Poker staff have been offered alternate positions at Oaklawn.”

An exciting element of some of the new terminals is the ability to offer tournaments, which will begin later in the summer. For more information about the games offered at Oaklawn, visit www.oaklawn.com or call (501) 623-4411.
