CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — Ken Brown scored 28 points to lead NAIA Philander Smith to a 97-90 victory against Central Arkansas on Wednesday night.

Brandon Bell scored 23 points and Damarkus Lipscomb 20 for the Panthers (1-3), who beat Central Arkansas for the second time in 15 meetings between the schools. The first victory was in 1985, when the Bears' leading scorer was a forward named Scottie Pippen.

LaQuentin Miles had 26 points and Ryan Williams 13 for the Bears (0-3), who wasted a 55-48 halftime lead and went 6 for 20 from the free-throw line in the second half.

A 23-11 run over a 6:28 span in the second half culminated with Bell's 3-pointer that gave the Panthers a 71-68 lead. Philander Smith, which is located in Little Rock, Ark., never trailed afterward.
