CONWAY, AR - The 18th annual Hendrix College Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bob Courtway Memorial Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 a.m. in the Hendrix Wellness & Athletics Center. Steve Cox of Jonesboro will be our featured speaker. Cox is a native of Charleston where his father taught him to kick at an early age and became a finalist in the National Pass, Punt, and Kick Contest and a six-time winner on the regional level. He is a graduate of Charleston High School where he was an outstanding basketball and football player under Coach Charles Tadlock. Though he had a strong leg, he was not recruited by the Razorbacks where he wanted to play so he signed with the University of Tulsa.

Cox got their  attention in the fall of 1976 when he kicked three field goals to help the Golden Hurricane upset the Hogs 9-3 at Razorback Stadium. The following year he joined the Razorbacks and became a record setting kicker, All-Southwest Conference twice, and an All-American.  In 1981, he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns where he kicked a 60-yard field goal which was the second longest in NFL history at the time and is one of only seven to kick 60 yards or more. After four years with the Browns, he played for the Washington Redskins from 1985-88  where he held their record for the two longest field goals with kicks of 55 and 57 yards. Cox was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

David Grimes will again emcee the program named in memory of Dr. Bob Courtway who served Hendrix College for 31 years as a professor, Hall of Fame swimming coach, and athletic director.

Tickets are $20 and a table of eight can be reserved for $150. Student tickets are $7.
