UALR Drops Women's Tennis

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Athletics announces the discontinuation of our Women’s Tennis program effective at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Athletics announced the discontinuation of the Women’s Tennis program effective at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year.

In a release, UALR Athletic Director Chris Peterson said, "many higher education institutions and their athletics programs across the country, including UALR, are under financial pressure and looking for ways to reduce costs in order to keep a college education affordable to students.  Along with other measures in the UALR Athletics Department, the elimination of a sport was necessary to meet budget reductions."

"UALR regrets that this action is necessary.  First and foremost, we are committed to ensuring that these student-athletes will have the opportunity to remain at UALR on a scholarship for a one-year period or assist them in finding another institution to continue their educational and tennis careers."

The restructuring of UALR’s sports program will bring the total number of sports to 14, the required number for NCAA Division I membership.
