CONWAY, AR - The University of Central Arkansas received word Monday from the NCAA that transfer quarterback Taylor Reed is eligible to compete immediately for the Bears and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Reed, a sophomore quarterback from El Dorado, sat out at the University of Arkansas last season after transferring from the University of Memphis, where he started nine games and threw for 1,690 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2011.

“I’m extremely excited for Taylor Reed and his family,’ said UCA head coach Clint Conque prior to Monday afternoon’s practice. “He and his family have been through a lot the last two years. He is playing for his fifth coaching staff since graduating from El Dorado High School in 2010.

“I”m just very happy for that young man. Kudos to associate athletic director Darrell Walsh, who did a heck of a job in presenting his case to the NCAA. And we appreciate the help of officials at both Arkansas and Memphis.’

Reed, a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder, led El Dorado to back-to-back state championships and compiled a record of 24-2 as a starting quarterback for the Wildcats. As a senior, Reed completed 155 of 245 passed for 2,417 yards and 27 touchdowns, and also ran for 10 more scores. He was the MVP of the state title game.

“Taylor will immediately strengthen our quarterback position and give us even more competition there,’ Conque said. “He has had a really good camp so far, and he had a great summer.’

Conque also announced the addition of wide receiver  Jaquon Goodman, a 6-4, 215-pounder from Smithville, Va., who just graduated from Iowa Central Community College. Goodman caught 18 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns last season at ICCC.

“Jaquon gives us another big body at receiver,’ said Conque. “He is an experienced guy that can run. He was offered by Old Dominion and Towson State. He’s another big target for our quarterbacks. We are excited about him joining our program.’
