LITTLE ROCK, AR - 2014 will mark the 10th anniversary of the premiere spring basketball tournament in the country. The Real Deal in the Rock will take place next week, with a number of special events to commemorate this anniversary.

The highlight of the events leading up to Real Deal will be the Mike Conley, Jr. Arkansas vs. Tennessee All-Star Classic. This event will take place on Thursday, April 17, and will feature the top seniors from Arkansas and Tennessee. The girl’s game will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by the boy’s game at 7:30. Both games will take place at Hall High School in Little Rock.

The games will also feature well-known coaches with ties to both states. Ronnie Brewer, Sr. and Todd Day will coach the boy’s teams, while Celia Anderson and Tina Webb-Jackson will coach the girl’s teams.

Conley, Jr., who is the point guard for the Memphis Grizzlies and has strong family ties to Arkansas, agreed to partner with Real Deal in the Rock for this event to help showcase the talent in the two bordering states.

There will be an opportunity for the media to visit with the All-Star Classic participants, including Razorback signees Trey Thompson and Nick Babb, at 1:00 p.m. following a player luncheon that will feature NBA analyst Kenny Smith as the scheduled speaker. That will be at the Centre at University Park in Little Rock.

All of this leads up to the Real Deal in the Rock which will begin with Friday, April 18. Games will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. at more than 40 gymnasiums around Little Rock. Games will continue Saturday and Sunday, with the semi-finals and championships scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The “Real Deal on the Hill” basketball tournament was created by Bill Ingram.  Bill, who is one of the coaches of the Arkansas HAWKS, has been participating in big tournaments all around the United States and thought it would be great to have a high profile tournament in Arkansas.  This concept became a reality in April 2005 when the Arkansas HAWKS and Indy Spice Heat hosted the First Annual “Real Deal on the Hill” basketball tournament.  This tournament featured 86 of the top 100 players in the United States, bringing together three different shoe companies (Reebok, Adidas, and Nike) travel teams.  The tournament was a major success for Northwest Arkansas.

In 2009, Real Deal on the Hill transitioned from the Northwest Arkansas to the capital city of Arkansas.  Little Rock became the permanent home of “Real Deal in the Rock”.  The transition was necessary to accommodate the travel demands of what has become the premier Spring Tournament in the South.  Real Deal has now become a fixture in grassroots basketball being named the number one tournament by nearly every major sport scouting service.

The journey from the hills of Northwest Arkansas to Central Arkansas has put Real Deal on top as one of the most respected tournaments in the nation.

Real Deal is undeniably the number one tournament in the nation to attract the best talent.  Our history includes four number-one NBA draft picks, more than 75 first-round NBA draft picks, NBA scoring champion, NBA Most valuable player, NBA All-Stars and NBA dunk champions.  The journey to the NBA has included the Real Deal for over 100 current and former players.  The best players in the country want to play in Central Arkansas.

Real Deal has an Executive Staff with over 50 years combined of tournament experience.  The dedicated staff works diligently year round to ensure Central Arkansas continues to have the Number One Spring Tournament.  The success is exemplified off the court where the team work with sponsors and supporters to ensure Real Deal is a national brand.  The driving force for the Real Team is to ensure every player has an opportunity to receive a scholarship on or off the court.
