Huntsville, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Offensive coordinator Cedric Pearl is serving as interim head football coach as Alabama A&M searchs for a replacement for Anthony Jones, who was informed Sunday that his contract would not be renewed.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference university is conducting a nationwide search for a successor. Jones, 43, had an 83-57 record in 12 seasons at A&M, including 4-8 this year.
"After looking over the program as a whole, I made the decision that we just wanted to go in a different direction with the program," A&M athletic director Bryan Hicks told The Alabama Media Group/The Huntsville Times on Monday. "I looked at everything. I looked at everything. And after looking at everything, our best interest to where we want to go in the future would be going ahead and making a change in direction."
Pearl, also A&M's offensive line coach, has spent 11 seasons on staff.
