Arkansans Get Help with Their Electric Bills

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LiHEAP, helps pay the bills.

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Hundreds of Arkansans stood in line to get help paying their electric bills.

The Central Arkansas Development Council accepted utility bill requests to help families unable to make payments.

This is the federally-funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP) that provides the money for the bills.  The council gets nearly $4 million a season.

Families say it's a lifesaver.

"I have five kids that live with me. I have to be able to support them. All my money went to food for them," said Justin Hamblin.

Families in need can only get help once for the winter season and once for the summer season.  If you didn't get there to request assistance, click here to find out how you can get help.
