Copper Thieves Cut Phone Lines, Service in Central Arkansas

Sheriff's deputies respond to multiple copper thefts damaging phone lines.
PULASKI COUNTY, AR--Authorities are searching for copper thieves accused of cutting phone lines and disrupting service to Arkansans. The Pulaski county sheriff's office is investigating multiple reports of damaged phone lines throughout the county, including one reported December 7th, 2013. Thieves are taking hundreds of feet of phone cable.

A T & T crews are working to repair lines on Geyer Springs Cut-off where some people have been unable to use land-line phones for over a week.

"I don't know how much copper they got but they'd didn't get enough for the trouble they caused the customers or the company," says longtime county resident Jay Mallory.

In a statement to Fox 16, spokesperson Anita Smith wrote:

"A T & T takes copper theft very seriously. These are not just attacks against our network, they are attacks on the businesses and people living in this community. We view these as crimes against the entire community and we are cooperating with law enforcement to make sure those responsible - for this illegal activity - are apprehended and prosecuted."
