Advocates Struggle to Place Homeless Families During Winter Storm

Police call on local advocates after struggling to find shelter beds for a woman and her child in below freezing temperatures.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Local homeless advocates say the extreme cold made it nearly impossible to find shelter for a Central Arkansas family.

Police in North Little Rock say they called shelters across the area to take in a woman with a teenage child Monday. After finding places like the Salvation Army too full, they relied on a local homeless advocate.

"He called me back and said I can't get her in anywhere, can you please help me I don't know what to do with her at which point we were able to put her in a hotel room," says Aaron Reddin.

The Compassion Center says it was open and had space. Police and Reddin aren't sure why there was a breakdown in communication and service, but Reddin says it happens often.
