Ark, Health Care Enrollment Mixed Depending on Program

Enrollment in Arkansas' private option Medicaid expansion compromise remains far ahead of those signing up on the federal health insurance exchange marketplace, officials said Thursday.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Enrollment in Arkansas' private option Medicaid expansion compromise remains far ahead of those signing up on the federal health insurance exchange marketplace, officials said Thursday.

According to the Arkansas Department of Human Services, approximately 150,000 people have been deemed eligible for the private option.

The Arkansas Insurance Department reports only 34,000 people have signed up for coverage on through AR Health Connector on the federal insurance exchange.

Director Jay Bradford says 200,000 Arkansans are eligible for a subsidy on the insurance marketplace but have yet to begin the sign up process.  The deadline to begin to sign up on healthcare.gov is Monday March 31st.

"What Arkansans had control over, which was the private option, I think it performed very well," Bradford says.  "The federal system as we all know had lots of potholes and bumps in the road."
