Update: 2 Still Missing after Barge Accident in Northeast Arkansas

They were tossed into the Mississippi River Tuesday near Blytheville.
Update (April 9):
MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR - Search and rescue efforts continue in the waters of the Mississippi River in hopes of finding two men who went under in a barge accident Tuesday.

The men were unloading coils from the barge when it overturned and sank near Blytheville at the Hickman-based Kinder Morgan plant.

The U.S. Coast Guard is in charge of the search. They're working with local fire departments and dive teams.

Kinder Morgan spokesperson Richard Wheatley says several boats have been in the water all day and a 10-mile stretch of the river is still closed to aid in the search.

Officials are not yet releasing the names of the missing, who were working for the company through a temp agency.

Wheatley also says search efforts have been difficult because of windy weather conditions and murky water (the river is nearly at flood stage).

Original story (April 8):
HICKMAN, AR -- A barge being unloaded by Kinder Morgan in Hickman, Arkansas capsized in the Mississippi River around 4 this afternoon.

Two people working on the barge are unaccounted for and still missing, according to Kinder Morgan in Houston, Texas.

A search is under way.

Kinder Morgan activated its emergency response plan and has made regulatory notifications.

The barge is not owned or operated by Kinder Morgan.

First responders are working the scene and include the U.S. Coast Guard, local fire department personnel and a dive team.

A portion of the river near the incident site has been temporarily closed by the Coast Guard during the search.

The investigation is ongoing.
