Board Addresses Changes To LRSD Reading Recovery Program

Board will make final decision during March meeting.
LITTLE ROCK, AR--Many community members are upset about the reorganization of the Little Rock School District's reading recovery program.

Thursday night, the board heard from many parents about the possible plan, which would eliminate one-to-one tutoring.

Instead, students would learn in a group setting if they need additional help learning to read.

Many community stakeholders stated the problems with taking such action.

"Reading recovery aligns closely with the Common core state standards and has been shown to work with any core curriculum," said reading trainer Janet Behrend.

The superintendent says a full plan will be released next month, which is when the full school board will vote to accept or decline the plan.
