Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Pau Gasol officially became a member of the Chicago Bulls on Friday.
Gasol had announced that he had chosen the Bulls on his Twitter account last Saturday.
The 34-year-old spent the past six-plus seasons with Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, winning two NBA titles. He will join another former MVP in Chicago, point guard Derrick Rose.
"We are really excited to add such a versatile player to our roster who has been both an All-Star and an NBA champion," said Chicago Bulls general manager Gar Forman in a statement. "Pau is a skilled player with a high basketball IQ and is a true pro and a proven winner."
With Bryant out most of the season, Gasol averaged 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 60 games in 2013-14, missing time because of a groin strain and a bout with vertigo.
Prior to his run with the Lakers, the Spanish big man was a member of the Memphis Grizzlies for more than six seasons (2001-08).
He has averaged 18.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 13 NBA seasons with Memphis and Los Angeles. In postseason play, Gasol has averaged 17.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 105 games -- all starts.
