Classes Dismissed in Preparation of Snow

Central Arkansas school districts dismissed early because of snow Friday afternoon.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Excitement among Little Rock students who get to start their weekend a few hours early.

School leaders made the decision Friday morning after getting weather updates throughout the day.

"The weather is about to change. The streets are about to get dangerous and get slippery," said Kenyan Porter, a Pre-K student at Martin Luther King Elementary School.

Porter said he couldn't wait to get home and get warm.  His mother left work early to pick him up.

At Dunbar Middle School, students said the school day got sweeter once they learned they would be getting out early.

"They were ready to go. That's why everyone came rushing to the buses," said Trent Waters.

Waters, an eighth grader, said he and his classmates watched the clock until they got the all-clear to leave.

"If it snows, I'll be happy. Build a snowman or have a snow fight," Waters said.

School leaders said Friday will count as a full day.  It won't have to be made up at the end of the year.
