Clinton Tours Areas Affected by Tornado

Former President Bill Clinton joins Governor Mike Beebe while touring damaged areas

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Former President Bill Clinton joined Governor Mike Beebe Sunday touring areas affected by last weeks deadly tornado. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson was also there seeing the damage for the first time.

"It's astonishing to me how much work has been done in a week," former President Clinton said, "With all the loss of life, people are just there with their neighbors and that's what struck me the most after seeing the damage."

While in Mayflower and Vilonia, they met with Mayflower Mayor Randy Holland and Vilonia Mayor James Firestone as well as first responders and survivors to discuss the ongoing response.

"The federal government is here to help," Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson said, "We are delivering public assistance directly to the state and in addition we are providing direct assistance to individuals and families who have been affected by this natural disaster."

As homeowners start to clean up debris and move forward, many business owners are left with questions on whether or not they want to open their doors again in Vilonia and Mayflower. Governor Mike Beebe and former President Clinton say they have no doubt business will return to the areas affected by last weekend's storm.

"This economy was working, " Clinton said, "We just need to go from business to business and figure out what we need to do and how we can get them to reopen with no more debt than they had before."

Saturday night, Clinton was honoring an event for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Ross.
