Closed Hospital Causing Problems for Memphis Patients

WEST MEMPHIS, AR - One week ago flames shut down an East Arkansas Hospital. Now people are waiting longer for ambulances.

All patients at Crittenden Regional Hospital are being taken to Memphis hospitals. West Memphis fire crews say it's causing an ambulance shortage that could get worse.

Patients from West Memphis are also causing more congestion and longer wait times in Memphis emergency rooms.

"It's a big problem. I told the guys just the other day I'd hate to know we can't get across the bridge for some reason. It's a problem, waiting. But if we can't get across the bridge our closest hospitals are Forrest city and Jonesboro," says Assistant Chief Jeff Jones of the West Memphis Fire Department.

The hospital is hoping to be back open by the week of June 23.
