Construction Worker Escapes Fire from Top Floor of Houston Apartment Complex

Fire officials said more than 200 emergency personnel battled the fire for 2 1/2 hours before bringing it under control.

HOUSTON, TX -- What started as a small rooftop fire turned into a massive blaze that destroyed a large apartment complex near downtown Houston on Tuesday afternoon.

The apartment was under construction at the time, according to authorities.

All construction workers who had been in the high-rise building are accounted for, and no injuries have been reported.

However, one man was rescued as he prepared to jump to safety.

The roof and the structure of the apartment complex collapsed from the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
