LITTLE ROCK, AR - Parents of children at one Little Rock Middle School are finding out Friday that a student was arrested Thursday for bringing a loaded gun and a knife to school.

According to Little Rock Police the school resource officer at Cloverdale Middle School arrested a student after others became suspicious the student may have a gun.

The day before, the student got into an argument with another child and pulled a knife out, threatening the other child.

According to a police report, the unnamed student had a loaded .38 handgun hidden in the front his pants and a pocket knife in his back pocket.

The student with the gun was arrested and removed from the school.

Parents received an automated message from the Principal of Cloverdale Friday, almost 24 hours later. The Principal says they wanted to take the time to thoroughly investigate the matter and send parents the most accurate information.

Here's what she wrote:

"Dear Cloverdale Parents:

This is to inform you of an incident that happened on campus Thursday, May 15, 2014. Two weapons were confiscated from a student without incident.  One student alerted the administration and another student alerted a teacher about the possibility on a weapon being on campus.  The administration and the teacher immediately alerted the school’s police officer and security officers.  The student in question was located; a gun and pocketknife were confiscated; and the student was immediately removed from the campus.  The student was disciplined according to LRSD Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and the law.

While these occurrences are regrettable, we are thankful no one was injured.  The Cloverdale administration followed all safety and security protocols.   In addition to our ongoing security measures which include Safety and Security staff and  a  Little Police Department Police officer  assigned to our campus daily, we will also continue to rely on our monitoring and visibility plan to ensure that students are in a safe educational environment.  The safety and security of all our students and staff remains a top priority for the district and for our campus.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Wanda.Ruffins@lrsd.org.
Thank you and have a great evening."
