Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher A.J. Ellis on the 15-day disabled list Monday, retroactive to Sunday, with a right ankle sprain.
After undergoing left knee surgery on April 8, Ellis was activated from the DL on May 14, but appeared in just eight games before injuring his ankle while celebrating Josh Beckett's no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
The 33-year-old backstop has batted .170 with two doubles and one RBI over 15 games this season.
To replace Ellis on the roster, the Dodgers recalled catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Federowicz appeared in 13 games during a stint with the Dodgers earlier this season and batted .109 with two doubles and one RBI. He hit .298 with four doubles, a homer and six RBI in 17 games with the Isotopes.
