Economic Impact of Health Disparities

$518 million is spent on health disparities among minorities.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - State health leaders take a look at the economic impact of health disparities on our nation.

It's the third time the Arkansas Minority Health Commission has held this summit. The agency released a study that shows that $518M a year is spent on health disparities among minorities.

Leaders say the Affordable Care Act helps to increase access but it's not the cure all.

"What we're hoping is that we can begin statewide dialogue that will look at intervention strategies to address minority health disparities, thereby saving the state money," says Idonia Trotter.

UAMS helped to compile data for this study.
