Education Commissioner Names New Chief of Staff

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Commissioner of Education Dr. Tom Kimbrell is pleased to announce Deborah Coffman as the Department of Education’s new chief of staff.

“Few can boast the experience that Deborah brings to this job," said Kimbrell. "I'm confident she will help us in our mission to provide the best educational opportunities for students."

Coffman is currently director of professional development, and has also served as literacy program manager for Arkansas Department of Education, instructional facilitator for Pocahontas Public Schools, literacy specialist at the Northeast Education Service Cooperative and elementary teacher at Hoxie Public Schools.

Coffman holds a bachelor of science in education and a master of science in education. In addition, she has previously served as adjunct professor, GED instructor and private school educator.

“I look forward to working with Commissioner Kimbrell and his team and with school leaders across Arkansas,” said Coffman.

She assumed her new position June 17.
