Former Danville Police Officer Wants To Know Why He Was Fired

A former Danville officer says his job was terminated with no explanation to him as to why.
DANVILLE, AR -- A four year veteran on the Danville police force says he was fired with no explanation.

Tim Spears was fired Thursday and tonight he's still not sure why.

Spears says even his police chief couldn't give him answers.

The Iraqi veteran also volunteers for the fire department and is a seemingly upstanding citizen in his community, but about a week ago, his police chief gave him disappointing news.

Spears said, "He told me that I don't know why, but I have to suspend you."

Spears says it happened after an "incident" with an inmate.

He couldn't explain what happened because it's still under investigation, but Spears claims he did nothing wrong.

He said, "I had to do what had to be done. Today if I was called to do it, I would do it again, a thousand times over."

Still, Spears says the mayor and city attorney wanted him fired for unprofessional conduct and no other explanation was given.

He said, "It would be nice to know exactly what I did that was so unprofessional."

Danville Mayor Steve Pfeifer wouldn't comment on the case.

Spears says he does get a chance to appeal this decision.

If he doesn't get his job back, Spears says he will look into suing the city for wrongful termination.
