Funerals Held for 6 Tornado Victims

CONWAY, AR -- Services were held Saturday for six of the fifteen people killed in Sunday's tornadoes.

Mark Bradley, Helen Greer, Dennis and Glenna Sue Lavergne, Robert Oliver and Jeffrey Hunter were all laid to rest.

Hunter was a 22-year-old computer science student at UCA. Last Sunday, he huddled in a bathtub with his father and stepmother as the tornado barreled down on their Vilonia home.

"He was perfect," said Hunter's sister Anna.  "He always knew how to make me laugh."

Hunter died in the storm, but, as we first reported Friday, not before sending one final text telling his mother goodbye.

Jeff's father and stepmother survived the tornado. They watched the ceremony, sitting in wheelchairs, still recovering from their injuries.

During the funeral, the pastor -- Hunter's great uncle -- spoke about questions swirling in the minds of tornado victims across three counties.

"Did we make the correct decisions?" asked Reverend Fred Hunter.  "Why me? Why my family? Why our city?"

Rev. Hunter said they are questions without answers.  Jeff Hunter's sisters say the pain is still immense, but so has been the outpouring of support.

"People I don't even know and Amanda doesn't know are contributing and helping in any way they possibly can," Anna Hunter said.  "It's beautiful."

As Rev. Hunter closed the ceremony, he sang a rendition of "Abraham, Martin and John" -- a tribute to American icons whose lives were taken -- hoping it will provide comfort to victims of this tragedy.
