Homeless Center Burglarized and Vandalized With Eggs

Criminals stole valuables from the SOAR Network in Little Rock and also vandalized the place with eggs.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Volunteers -- who help run a homeless advocacy center -- say criminals tore the place apart stealing expensive equipment and vandalizing the center.

It happened at SOAR Network on Woodrow, in Little Rock.

On Sunday morning, volunteer Carye Beavers walked through the front doors to find the place a mess.

She said, "It looked like something out of a movie scene where the mobsters go in and totally wreck somebody's house!"

The organization is vital in the community.

SOAR volunteers drive the homeless to appointments and job interviews.

That's hard to do now with missing computers, phones gone and their van damaged.

Someone even stole donations meant for the homeless.

Making matters worse, just three months ago, the man who created SOAR Network, Dennis Beavers, passed away after a heart attack.

His niece Carye Beavers said, "It is just dishonoring the memory of a wonderful man and the legacy of a great organization."

Along with stealing anything of value from the center, criminals also took 40 dozen eggs from refrigerators, meant for a community breakfast, and slammed them all over the place."

Yolk was spilled on the floor and splashed on the walls and ceilings.

But the vandalism didn't crush the spirit of SOAR Network.

Volunteers cleaned up the mess and plan to continue their mission.

Beavers said, "And keep saving the world one person at a time."

The folks with SOAR say the damage and missing items will cost them around $12,000.

If you want to help, a fundraiser will be held Tuesday at Chick-fil-A on Markham from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

You can also make donations at soarnetwork.org.

The Little Rock Police Department is investigating the crime.

So far, there have been no arrests in this case.
