LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) announces the new State Director of HRC Arkansas.

Kendra Johnson will now lead the organizations's "Project One" efforts across Arkansas.

The goal of the Human Rights Campaign is to bring equality to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people - also known at the LGBT community.

Today Arkansas State University student D'andre Anderson spoke about how difficult it was for him to embrace his sexuality, and announce the news to family and friends.

"I found the dignity and courage that I'm just like you guys but there's something different about me. And that's when I told them I was gay," says Anderson.

According to a recent survey by the Human Rights Campaign LGBT Arkansans are active members in their communities.

In fact 60% of them have called Arkansas home for more than 20 years
