Leaders in Fight Against Breast Cancer Honored

The Josetta Wilkins Awards were handed out Tuesday to three women for their work in helping breast cancer survivors find their strength.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - It's a very special day for at least three people who go above and beyond the call of duty to fight breast cancer in Central Arkansas.

The 2014 Josetta Wilkins Awards were handed out today. Three women; Sharon Register, Myrtle Hughes and Vickie Martin where honored for their work in helping breast cancer survivors find their strength.

The event is named after Josetta Wilkins a former state legislator who pushed through a law that makes free mammograms available to uninsured and under insured women.

Over the years that's added up to hundreds of thousands of women in Arkansas.

"I cannot give you a definition of how it affects me personally but I know that I feel when you saw the figures up there today where thousands and thousands of people are being helped with this program, I can't help but feel wonderful about it," says Wilkins.

Breast Care sponsors the event every year. And make no mistake next year they will be looking for another set of breast cancer warriors.
