Learning Water Safety at Wild River Country

Students with 18 area schools take part in school days event.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - The long Memorial Day weekend will be spent on the water for many Arkansans.

It's the perfect time to be reminded about water safety.

The Army Corps of Engineers partnered with Wild River Country on Thursday to teach kids why it's so important to wear a life jacket when you're on the water.

Eighteen area schools were represented at the school days event.

"We really want parents to make sure their chidlren that can't swim or are inexperienced wear their life vest," says Chris Shillcutt, Vice President of Operations with Aquapark/Wild River Country.

Shillcutt adds that even strong swimmers should wear their life vest because they haven't swum all winter and could easily get tired.
