Little Rock Summer Camp Causing Concern

The BBB in Arkansas is warning parents about a summer camp set to begin in Little Rock next week.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Better Business Bureau in Arkansas is warning parents about a summer camp set to begin in Little Rock next week.

A video on the website for 'Be Inspired Arts' alludes to a summer of fun.

"I heard about the program through a friend," said a parent who asked only to be identified as "Mike." He attended a meeting last month to learn more.

"The pitch it was flawless," Mike said. "It sounded great."

Mike says he almost signed up his two young daughters but first decided to do some research.

"The more I dug, the more I found, the more I was upset," he said.

Last summer, the Better Business Bureau in Memphis sent out an alert after receiving nearly 50 complaints from three states about summer camps called the Inspirational Keys Performing Arts Academy and the owner Quinton Cox.

"They all pretty much allege the same thing," said Janet Robb, with the Arkansas BBB. "We paid fees for the camp. The camp closed early. We were promised a refund, but we never received it."

"[There] was a facility that we were renting that basically backed out of the contract before us completing the camp," Cox said, speaking with us Thursday afternoon.

He admitted to some problems at his camps, but said there have been many more successes.

"We've been in Little Rock for two years," Cox said. "This is our third year in Little Rock. We have actually operated very strong camps."

Cox admits he changed the name of his company to avoid the negative publicity, but says he stands by his product.

Still, the parent we spoke with says he's not taking any chances.

Camps in Little Rock are being held at Philander-Smith College and UALR and cost about $100 per child per week. Representatives at the schools confirmed space is being rented but said there's no affiliation.
