NLRSD Board Approves Re-Zoning, Commute Shorter for Elementary Students

Superintendent Kelly Rodgers says they have changed from a satellite zoning plan to a community plan.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - Getting to school may be a shorter commute for some North Little Rock students after the board voted in new zoning.

The rezoning approval will have elementary students going to school within walking distance of their home. This is all part of the districts' $265M capital improvement plan which will help improve schools in the areas and consolidate as well as build new ones.

Superintendent Kelly Rodgers says they have changed from a satellite zoning plan to a community plan.

"Tried to do a one to one and a half mile radius bringing the children closer within one or one and half miles of their elementary school in some cases the idea was also to make it a walk-able situation," says Rodgers.

The reconfigured school boundary lines will go into effect in the 2015-2016 school year.
