The original documentary “Through Our Eyes: 4.27.14,” produced by KARK and Fox16, will premiere at a free community event on Saturday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at Mayflower High School. The one-hour film highlights the EF4 tornado that tore through portions of Central Arkansas as told by the KARK and Fox16 news teams and those who experienced the deadly storm. The documentary features never-before-seen news footage and extended interviews shot by news crews on the ground in the hours following the storm.

“Bits and pieces of these stories appeared in newscasts but there's just something about seeing the footage in a more raw state that's extremely compelling,” said the film’s Executive Producer Danielle Ray. “It's a way of letting the stories tell themselves. There's no reporter voice over, it's just the footage as it was shot. Somehow, it makes what you're seeing feel much more real.”

In addition to interviews with the people who experienced the storm, the film features new interviews with members of the KARK and Fox16 teams who covered the severe weather event from start to finish.

“There were many of our co-workers that were personally impacted that night and in the days that followed. Those are stories that will normally never be told on the air,” added Ray. “They are touching and extremely personal stories.”

“We wanted to give our viewers an inside look at what it’s like for our reporters, anchors, and the meteorologists of the Arkansas Storm Team to cover a disaster that hit so close to home,” noted Creative Services Director Allan Snyder.

In the days following the story, KARK and Fox16 employees were touched by the hope and courage they saw on display each day in Mayflower and Vilonia. “Through Our Eyes: 4.27.14” aims to highlight the spirits of the towns most impacted by the storm. The documentary is dedicated to the 16 lives lost.

“This film tells the story of an event that forever changed lives,” said KARK-Fox16 News Director Austin Kellerman. “So often with television news, a story comes to an end, footage is deleted and we move on. In this case, we don’t want to move on. We wanted to create something that’s forever.”

After the Mayflower premiere, “Through Our Eyes: 4.27.14” will be televised on both KARK and Fox16. The documentary will air on KARK at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19. It will also air the next day, Friday, June 20, at 8 p.m. on Fox16.
