PB Mayor Files Lawsuit to Stop Election

The county's election leaders said there will be a mayor's election this year. Mayor Hollingsworth said the election will be in 2016.
PINE BLUF, AR -- Pine Bluff Mayor Debe Hollingsworth files a lawsuit to stall a race for her seat.

Hollingsworth filed a lawsuit against former Mayor Carl Redus, the Jefferson County Election Commission, and the Jefferson County Clerk.

Redus, along with the election commissioners, said there will be a mayor's race this year.

They point to a state law that requires cities with a population under 50,000 people to have elections during a midterm election year.

But opinions from the Secretary of State and the state Election Commission said the race will be in 2016.

Hollingsworth calls this a conspiracy.

Hollingsworth's attorneys are asking for a circuit judge to make an expeditious decision.

We reached out to Redus, but he has not made contact with us.

"All citizens, including Carl Redus, are obligated to follow the law, irrespective to whether or not they agree with it. We are bound as citizens to follow the law," Hollingsworth said.
