St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Rams on Wednesday fired defensive coordinator Tim Walton after just one season.
"I would like to thank Tim for his hard work and contributions to our defense," said Rams coach Jeff Fisher. "I wish him well in the future."
Walton was tabbed to replace Gregg Williams, who was hired as the defensive coordinator but never coached a down for the Rams after being suspended for the entire 2012 season for his role in the New Orleans Saints bounty program.
The Rams opted to go with a committee approach that season rather than replacing Williams, then brought Walton on board last February.
Despite defensive end Robert Quinn's 19 sacks, Walton's defense gave up 364 points last season, 13th in the NFL. It ranked 19th against the pass and ninth against the run.
