Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers activated pitcher Tanner Scheppers from the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.
Scheppers, sidelined since April 17 with elbow inflammation, just completed a five-game minor league rehab stint between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock.
The hard-throwing right-hander made four starts prior to being shelved, but will return to the relief role he excelled in last season. In 76 appearances out of the bullpen in 2013, Scheppers compiled a 6-2 record with a 1.88 ERA and a team-best 27 holds.
Scheppers struggled during his short time as a starter, allowing 20 runs and 27 hits -- including four homers -- in just 18 1/3 innings.
Reliever Aaron Poreda was sent back to Round Rock in a corresponding move. The lefty was recalled from the Triple A club on Wednesday and pitched in last night's game against Baltimore, allowing hits to both of the two batters he faced.
