Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar is going on the disabled list because of a sore right shoulder.
Rays manager Joe Maddon said Escobar threw before Monday's game against the Yankees but the team is keen to give him more days off and not rush him back onto the field.
"We talked about that and he understood it," Maddon said after the Rays pulled out a 4-3 win in 12 innings.
Escobar left last Tuesday's game against Pittsburgh. He is batting .244 in 77 games this season.
