Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sacramento State's football program will play at Cal and host six opponents as part of a 12-game 2014 schedule announced Monday.
The Hornets will open their season by visiting Incarnate Word on Aug. 30.
A week later on Sept. 6, they will make their second appearance at Cal's Memorial Stadium. The Golden Bears from the Pac-12 struggled to a 1-11 record last year.
Sacramento State's home opener against Weber State on Sept. 13 will not count toward the Big Sky Conference standings. The Hornets will then host NAIA member Menlo in their final non-conference game on Sept. 20.
Within the Big Sky, coach Marshall Sperbeck's Hornets will host Montana State (Oct. 4), Cal Poly (Oct. 18, Homecoming), Southern Utah (Nov. 8) and Portland State (Nov. 15).
Their conference road matchups are against Idaho State (Sept. 27), Northern Colorado (Oct. 11), Montana (Nov. 1) and rival UC Davis (Nov. 22).
Under the Big Sky's unbalanced scheduling, the Hornets will not face Eastern Washington, North Dakota, Northern Arizona and Weber State.
Sacramento State finished with a 5-7 record, including 4-4 in the Big Sky, last season.
