"Safety Town" Uses Fun to Teach Tough Topics

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The world is a big place and for kids who haven't ventured far from home, it can be scary but one local group is trying to prepare them for the future using fun.

"Stop, look and listen! Before you cross the street."

Kids in Little Rock are learning how to stay safe before they cross the street, meet a stranger or board the bus for their first year in school.

200 soon-to-be kindergarten students are spending the week as Safety Town visitors. According to it's mayor, Safety Town tackles tough topics without being threatening.

"The children like it, we're very matter of fact about all of the topics we bring up. They really soak it up like a sponge. We don't scare them, they love it," says Mayor of Safety Town Wendy Saer.

Safety Town, established 30 years ago brings in law enforcement officers, ambulance personnel, firefighters and others to instruct the kids on safety outside the home.
